Parental care in discus fish (Symphysodon sp.) is one of their most remarkable traits. The parents carefully prepare the spawning site for the eggs and guard them together. Even after hatching, they continue to protect and care for the young. Once the fry are able to swim independently, the parents feed them with a mucus produced by their skin glands.
