The neon tetra (Paracheirodon innesi) is a small, slender fish with a slightly laterally compressed body. Its total length usually reaches about 3.5–4 cm. A striking, iridescent blue stripe runs along its side, while the belly is silvery white. The rear part of the body is marked by a bright red stripe that extends toward the base of the tail fin.
