The truth is: only partly. Goniurosaurus species are not found exclusively in caves. They can often be seen on forest floors, in the cracks of limestone and granite rock formations, and around cave entrances. These fascinating geckos like to dig and are also skilled climbers. They can climb rocky surfaces and even trees. In the wild, they prefer cool, humid habitats, often close to water.

Interestingly, the name “cave gecko” became popular mainly in the West. In Asia, they are often referred to as tiger geckos.
