Henkel’s leaf-tailed gecko (Uroplatus henkeli) is a true master of camouflage. Along its body, near the line of the lower jaw, runs a special skin fringe that almost looks like a “beard.” This fringe helps blur the outline of the gecko’s body. As a result, it becomes much harder to spot when it rests motionless on a tree trunk or branch. Thanks to its natural camouflage, Henkel’s leaf-tailed gecko can become almost invisible in its forest habitat.
