Zonosaurus laticaudatus is a lizard species belonging to the family Gerrhosauridae. It is native to western Madagascar, where water can play an important role in its survival.
Observations show that this species does not rely only on running when threatened. If a predator approaches, it may dive underwater and remain below the surface for up to 3 minutes. This behavior can be an effective escape strategy. Hiding underwater gives the lizard time to avoid the predator and move toward a safer place.
