The cardinal tetra (Paracheirodon axelrodi) is native to South America, mainly in the upper parts of the Orinoco and Negro rivers. It is a small species, usually reaching around 3 cm in length. Its appearance is made especially striking by the bright, iridescent blue stripe typical of the Paracheirodon genus. This stripe runs along the side of the body and can shine vividly depending on the light. Below it, a strong bright red band extends along the body.
