The Aldabra giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea) is one of the largest land tortoises in the world. Its body length can reach up to 120 cm, and its weight may reach as much as 250 kg. Its shell is large and strong, yet well adapted to a terrestrial lifestyle. The domed shape helps distribute weight and provides stable support for its massive body.
