Phasma gigas is a truly impressive representative of the stick insect world. Its long, slender body and elongated limbs make it look very similar to a dry twig or plant stem. This twig-like appearance is no coincidence. Camouflage is one of the most important survival strategies of stick insects, helping them stay hidden from predators.
