The striped killifish (Aphyosemion striatum) belongs to the egg-laying killifish group. These special fish can be found in tropical rainforest waters, as well as in savanna pools and swamps. One common feature of these habitats is that they may dry out seasonally during drier periods. This creates a serious challenge for the animals living there. However, the striped killifish can survive in the shallow remaining water areas. This special adaptation shows how resilient a small tropical fish can be.
