The Hongslo’s dwarf cichlid lives in warm, clear waters of the Orinoco Basin, where males can show especially vivid colors.

Juvenile Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens have a contrasting abdomen pattern, while adults develop vivid blue, green and orange colors.

The spine-like projections of Cristarmadillidium muricatum give it a unique appearance and may also provide protection from predators.
