The panther chameleon (Furcifer pardalis) shows especially striking behavior during courtship. The male may display brighter colors to stand out from his surroundings and signal his presence to the female. During courtship, the male performs slow, bobbing head movements. These movements act as important communication signals and help attract the female’s attention.
If the female is receptive, she may tolerate the male’s approach. If she is not ready to mate, she can make this very clear. She may show a rejecting posture, react aggressively, or even display defensive behavior toward the male.
