Whip scorpions (Thelyphonida) are unusual arachnids. Their appearance may remind us of both scorpions and whip spiders. They have claws and a tail, but only three pairs of walking legs. Their first pair of legs has evolved into sensory limbs. These are especially useful during hunting. Although their claw-like feet can move like small pincers, they open only slightly. Because of this, the sensory front legs play a much bigger role in finding and detecting prey.
